Scholars Participate in Gem Mining
Scholars in Ms. Paul's Earth and Environmental classes and Ms. Gurganus' Chemistry classes recently participated in a gem mining activity. Some juniors, seniors, teachers and their kids joined in the gem mining experience as well. In the Diamond Del’s Gem Mining Adventure, scholars were given a box of rocks and minerals. They used the flume full of water to clean them so they could discover the actual rocks and minerals. Some of the rocks and minerals found were Quartz, Garnet, Orange Calcite, and Pumice. Scholars also found Petrified Wood. In total, there were 15 different kinds of rocks and minerals discovered. Diamond Del's Gem Mining Adventure is an interactive mobile mining exhibit which travels to school campuses. For more information, visit (submitted by Erica Baynor)
