NERSBA Sharpshooters Participate in Tournament
The North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission’s Hunter Education Program holds annual tournaments as an opportunity for youth to showcase outdoor skills and demonstrate safety. Teams are organized within public and private schools, while home-schooled students and teams representing organizations such as 4-H or FFA also can compete. On March 28th, NERSBA Sharpshooters competed in the regional tournament of events such as shotgun, .22 caliber rifles, archery, and hunter skills. We had two teams competing in the contest. NERSBA RED included: Blaze Gammon, Noah Wynn, Tyler Binnicker, Zach Riddick, Gracen McMullen, Kathryn Leggett, Kayla Smith, and Joseph Spencer. NERSBA BLACK included: Gunnar Price, Jason Respess, Simon Harris, Jennifer Murphy, Jessica Rosene, Jacob Smith, Jonathan Williams, Sierra Sutton, Mark Baur, Blaine Greikspoor, Jonae Lowe and Mikayla Groover. Zach Riddick from the NERSBA RED team scored a perfect score of a 200 at the shotgun event and went on to compete in the shoot off. NERSBA RED finished in 13th place while NERSBA BLACK finished in 19th in the region. Our sharpshooters represented the school well and demonstrated excellent safety skills at the tournament.
